The Currency of Names

The car needed fixing.
The diagnostic technician advised going to a repair shop.
The woman said she only goes to the dealership.
The technician stared at her for a moment before saying

“The dealership is just another repair shop with a purchased name. They order the same parts the other repair shops order and they employ mechanics than can work in any of them. They charge more for perceived recognition, not true performance.”

What name(s) have we paid too much for, whose substance we can’t articulate?
What job titles have we applied for, whose images we can’t incorporate?
