Thoughts
How dare express to a child they are not enough by telling them they are too much – of anything. A memory of poppies, freeways, dumpsters, big wheels, and riding shirtless with barely there breasts at perfect ease in the sun comes and waves farewell as a woman calls me over to express I was ‘too fast’, immoral, and ugly in god’s eyes for showing my six-year old flat chest. Some folks hate to see skin and freedom merge into joy, cause it reminds them of their inner detachment to themselves.

They found me hours later behind a bush talking, they thought, to myself. I’d found a packet of partially used kool-aid near a dumpster, dug a small hole, and filled it with dried bougainvillea petals nearby, the remaining kool-aid, and water from a nearby hose. I wasn’t talking to myself. I was talking to the sun, and was asking him to help me make something beautiful and sweet, because it didn’t occur to me that beautiful and sweet were ingredients inside of me.

When witnessing extraordinary kindness in folks, they remind me of that moment, cause I know supernatural kindness is born from pain, and I feel a kindred spirit that may or may not be expressed, but is always recognized. Sometimes it’s our own kool-aid we need to spit out, in order to taste the natural beauty within, because the offering of self is a fragrance of splendor that procreates love beneath the sun’s rays.
