S E V E N T H

each morning she shines
he says life is beautiful
she nods in agreement
mistresses don’t argue
they delight in rainbows
soaked with cloud-shaped
loyalty to deformities

she is found drenched like
a cat with a stretched horn
that follows but can’t lead
the monkey at the funeral
she hangs from the tree
then swings home on the
cobwebs of death

to drink herself to sleep upon
the silks of stolen secrets
dreaming of becoming larvae
the precise shape of burial
mimicking fruitless ceremony
summoning alien dimension
