There was blood in the bath water

I’d fallen down in the shower and when I stood up it was a clear a vampire had ravaged my legs so I started a hot bath.  It was a trick I learned as a kid:

Blood baths fill holes and take away pain

Tired from scrubbing away the blood and skin beneath fingernails I pulled the plug and numbly sat watching the water drain as her body grew heavier and heavier on top of mine.

When the air began to feel cold on my skin I knew we’d both been healed.

There was water leaking from my chest

I’d fallen love and when I stood up it was clear I’d done well in roulette but had failed to find a place for resting my heart sails so I started the jukebox. It was a trick I learned as an adult:

Music fills holes and takes away pain

Tired from scrubbing away the wishes and dreams beneath my thoughts I pulled the plug and numbly sat watching the words reach for me as his yearning grew heavier and heavier on top of mine.

When the air began to feel cold on my skin I knew we’d both been crying.
